The Story So Far - Series 2

Season 1        Season 2        Season 3

This is intended to be a rough guide only to explain the basic storyline. For a detailed episode guide, try the Lexx Directory Episode Guide or one of the other excellent fan sites out there.

Mantrid (Episode 1) Kai has been possessed by His Shadow's essence unbeknownst to either himself or the rest of the crew, and demands that they should find an insect larva from the body of the gigashadow that they can take to Mantrid, a bio-vizier considered so dangerous that His Shadow exiled him to a prison world. 790 finds another Fractal Core and they return to the Light Universe finding a larva near the remains of the Cluster. They take the dormant larva to Mantrid's world, who turns out to be a floating head on a jar with 4 arms that exist independently revolving around his "body". Mantrid agrees under duress to wake the insect and make it produce Protoblood for Kai, but once it's awake, Kai shatters Mantrid's jar and transfers the Insect Essence to the Larva, causing it to awaken properly. Zev finds Kai, who explains that he has been possessed by the Insect Essence, and they try to escape but the Larva chases them. Stan rushes to the rescue in a Moth and they make it off the planet in time to blow it up along with the larva. Or so they think.

Mantrid's assistant takes the remains of Mantrid, and the "transferrence" organ from the insect and uses the organ to transfer Mantrid's mind into a machine that he has been building to try to escape from the prison world. Mantrid is now part man, part insect and part computer all housed in the body of a small spaceship. And he and his revolving arms make it off the planet before Lexx manages to destroy it...

Terminal (Episode 2) Kai accidentally shoots Stan through the heart when Stan wakes him up incorrectly. Zev finds a medical station and after a demonstration of Lexx's power, they agree to treat Stan free of charge. The three Doctors who treat him, however, plot to steal the Lexx and kidnap Zev in order to get the key from her (which Stan passed to her before he lapsed into unconsciousness). Torturing Zev to the point of death causes her Cluster Lizard DNA to become dominant and she turns into a Cluster Lizard right there and then. She eats the three bad doctors and in rescueing Kai from a machine which is about to pulverise his atoms, she is killed. Kai and Stan take her remains (a large puddle of protein goo) in a glass jar and store them in a cryochamber.

Lyekka (Episode 3) A plant infests the Lexx that takes human form from Stanley's dream of a girl he knew at school (Lyekka). She eats living flesh and is soon snacking happily on three astronauts that the Lexx encounters. She becomes very fond of Stanley, however, and will not eat Kai because he is dead. As a present for Stan, she eats the protein goo remains of Zev and reconstitutes the protein into Xev, who she creates from 790's inaccurate description of her through his love poetry. Lyekka retires to her "pod" where she stays when dormant, which hangs high above the bridge of the Lexx.

Luvliner (Episode 4) Xev and Stan decide to visit a space-faring bordello which caters for all, and we mean all sexual preferences. It's a little more run-down than advertised however, so no-one gets what they paid for, except maybe 790 who the manager takes a shine to (cue fantastic robo-sex suit that has to be seen to be believed!). The owner tries to steal the Lexx and Kai saves the day, but as the Lexx flies off into the night, a little cloud of floating Mantrid arms completely destroys the Luvliner.

Lafftrack (Episode 5) An advert for TV World, a theme park dedicated to TV, catches Xev's eye and her and Stan go to explore. The planetoid is abandoned but run by holograms and robots and the name of the game is to try your hand at TV presenting. The higher your ratings the better the show you get, but if the ratings drop too low you get to join the Studio Audience...the disembodied heads of all those who have failed before you. Needless to say, Stan is the first to fail and he is carted off for decapitation. Luckily Kai comes to the rescue and they are all saved, apart from TV World itself, which gets eaten a short time later by Mantrid arms.

Stan's Trial (Episode 6) Stan is captured whilst visiting the Celes Pleasure Cruiser and put on trial for his part in losing the amino acid codes for the Lexx and access codes to the shields of the reform planets all those years ago. The prosecutor claims that he is responsible for the destruction of the 100 reform planets that His Shadow blew up after he got the codes, and that Stan should have committed suicide rather than let the codes fall into the enemy's hands. Kai defends Stan saying that although he may be guilty there is no point in taking revenge after all this time, but Stan is found guilty after all and sentenced to death. Kai pleads for a quick and painless death, which is granted, but the prosecutor is a sadistic pervert and takes Stan to be tortured to death with nerve bore worms. Kai and Xev discover this and rescue him, and Kai captures the prosecutor and asks Stan if he would like Kai to be the "executor of justice" i.e. kill the prosecutor. Stan says no, there's no point in killing her, and they leave. Stan later asks Kai if he would really have killed her if he'd asked, and Kai says yes, but that he would then have had to kill Stan too, as he was also guilty of a crime. As they leave, the Celes Pleasure Cruiser is eaten in a cloud of Mantrid arms.

Love Grows (Episode 7) Lexx accidentally eats a space tanker full of genetic waste and three crew (two male and one female). While Xev tries to pull the male crew and Stan tries to avoid the advances of the 'mature' female navigator, the genetic waste turns out to be a virus which causes all those infected to change sex. First the tanker crew succumbs, then Xev and Stan, and finally even Lexx...who is delighted when Kai tells 'her' that she's beautiful. Unfortunately the virus is also deadly and the crew are likely to die within 72 hours if a cure isn't found. At the last moment, Lexx synthesises an antibody which cures both himself and the crew. The tanker crew are meanwhile running loose on the ship until they encounter a party of cannibalistic stowaways...

White Trash (Episode 8) The cannibalistic stowaways turn out to be a family from the Cluster who also escaped on the Lexx (which is plenty large enough to hide hundreds of people). The hill-billy/red-neck/white trash family consist of a father (Pa), a daughter (who likes Stan), an son (who Xev likes), and and younger son called Norb, who turns out to be the product of an affair between the family's mother (now dead) and a pilot who crash landed on their home planet, Vermal. Pa takes over the Lexx and insists on being taken home to Vermal. Xev and the elder son go down to Vermal where he is killed by a rival clan, leaving Xev to their mercy. Kai comes to the rescue via a bargain struck with Norb to help the boy fix his father's spaceship so that he can escape. Pa accidentally kills his daughter in a fit of rage and then blows Vermal up, Kai and Xev escaping in the nick of time. Pa then gets eaten by Lyekka, but Norb's clapped out spaceship also manages to escape the exploding planet and flies off into the night.

791 (Episode 9) A distress call leads the crew to an crash landed prison ship on an uninhabited planet. Xev and Kai try to help the prisoners while 790 finds that the pilot was a cyborg like himself (with a fantastic body) that has lost his head. 790 attempts to fix his head to the new body but the programming corrupts him and he takes on the body's original personality - that of a violent butt-raper - and he tricks Stan into coming down to the ship so that he can have his evil way with him. Meanwhile the prisoner Kai and Xev were helping turns out to be not so innocent after all and locks them into the ship whilst setting off the self destruct sequence. She tries to escape from the planet in the moth but Lyekka eats her. The crew free themselves, managing to rescue 790's head from the rampaging body and make a quick getaway before the ship's self-destruct bomb blows up the whole planet.

Wake the Dead (Episode 10) A group of teenagers accidentally put themselves into cryosleep for 300 years instead of 3 days until the Lexx picks them up and Xev wakes them. They are shown around the Lexx and think Kai looks cool in his cryopod but don't really believe that he's alive, and dangerous. Petty squabbles and bitchiness amongst the group soon end in one of them, a boy called Enox, getting so annoyed that he goes to the cryochamber and tells Kai to kill the rest of the kids, along with Stan and Xev. He doesn't really think that Kai will respond, but Kai wakes up wrong and goes on a killing spree, murdering each one in a different and interesting way. He dispatches the teenagers first before heading for Stan and Xev but fortunately runs out of Protoblood in the nick of time. They reprogramme the cryopod and Xev fills him up again, and all is restored to normal. (A great episode for Kai-fans!)

Nook (Episode 11) A planet inhabited entirely by male monks is a haven for a sex starved love slave and Xev goes out of her way to make sure the men (who have no concept of what a woman is) have a good time. Stan also gets chatted up himself, although the infatuated monk is not quite as female as he would have liked, and he ends up being framed for murder by the senior Brother who decides that the crew's visit has destroyed the way of life on Nook forever. During a big party, while Xev finally gets her end away, he sets off an old mechanism that will destroy the planet. Kai realises this and persuades the others to leave, and they escape moments before the planet erupts in a big cloud of rocks.

Norb (Episode 12) The small boy from episode 8 (White Trash) is found floating in space by the Lexx and Xev insists he is brought aboard. Norb is not how they remember him, however, and it soon turns out that this is because he has been killed and replaced by Mantrid arm-drones. The Mantrid drones run riot inside the ship, dismantling the Lexx piece by piece and converting the raw materials into more Mantrid drones. 790 succumbs when the pretend Norb takes out his cube of brain tissue and crushes it, and Kai has to regenerate it with some of his Protoblood. Meanwhile the numbers of drones are increasing and the only way to get rid of them all is to leave the Lexx and get Lexx (who is being eaten alive) to reverse the polarity of his engines which will screw up all electrical equipment inside. Kai has to rescue 790 and gets left aboard the Lexx while the ship reverses the engines, but being dead it just makes him crackle blue a bit rather than get electrocuted. Lexx resorbs the bodies of the drones while Mantrid's face appears on the viewscreen, challenging the crew to a "game". The kind of game where the prize is staying alive...

Twighlight (Episode 13) When Xev finds Stan unconscious and cannot wake him, 790 diagnoses a high level of Hydrogen Peroxide but cannot tell why. Sending out a distress signal for medical assistance gets an answer from the Planet Ruma, which is where the bodies of the dead Divine Shadows were sent when they died. Kai explains this is because of the radiation on the planet which "is not known to affect the living". What he means is, it does affect the dead, bringing them semi-back-to-life, and as soon as they land on the planet, he goes mildly loopy and starts spouting poetry and dancing. A cleric and his family abandoned on the planet after the collapse of the Divine Order help cure Stan (who is suffering from Selenium deficiency) in return for a lift off the planet, as every night the dead Divine Shadows come back to life as Zombies and try to eat them, but instead of taking Xev up on her offer of transport, they try to steal the Lexx. Xev gets attacked by a zombie and turns into a zombie herself and Kai disappears. All seems lost until Lyekka, having woken up hungry, comes to the rescue eating the cleric's wife and daughter and saving the others in a moth. Back on the Lexx, Kai is back to normal but has to suck the Zombie poison out of Xev's mouth, a process which she enjoys immeasurably. As Stanley is about to blow up the planet he is beaten to it by a cloud of Mantrid drones...

Patches in the Sky (Episode 14) Stan is taken in by an advert for Gubby's Narcolounger World "where your dreams become reality". Deciding he'd like to live out one of his more erotic dreams about Xev, Lyekka and a host of other females, he takes the crew aboard the station and insists on being given a free ride. Whilst Stan is sucked into the dream machine Xev looks about and Kai chats to Gubby, the stoned proprietor, who explains about the "Patches in the Sky". Bits of the universe are disappearing at an alarming rate and he doesn't know why. Stan's dream get nasty when Gigerotta turns up in it and starts taking over, but the drugged-up Gubby activates the machine incorrectly when trying to wake Stan and ends up getting sucked in himself. Gigerotta kills Gubby inside the dream and so Xev volunteers to go in and try to get Stan out. Kai operates the machine and then tries to work out how to get them both out of the machine. He finally works it out and frees Xev and Stan who he then tells about the Patches in the Sky. They realise that the patches are places where galaxies used to be that have been eaten up by Mantrid drones...

Woz (Episode 15) A sobbing 790 informs Xev that she only has 79 hours left to live due to her "love slave" expiry date. The only way to save her is to find a 'Lusticon' machine, the only one in existence being on the turbluent planet Woz. Landing on Woz in the middle of a cyclone, the moth accidentally squashes a woman; a member of a resistance force who fight against the Dark Lady. Their leader, the Wozzard, explains that the Dark Lady turns women into Love Slaves and gives them an expiry date of just 7 days to keep the market hungry. The Wozzard agrees to help Xev if Kai will kill the Dark Lady for him. Kai agrees, reluctantly, and he and Stan go to the castle to face her whilst Xev stays with 790 to be "cured". The Wozzard however has lied - his machine doesn't have the right parts to extend Xev's expiry date and instead he turns her back to her old, fat, ugly self - a form which he says shows her natural inner beauty. Whilst Xev is both expiring and ugly, Kai faces the Dark Lady and goes to kill her, until she explains that the Wozzard is just annoyed because his girlfriend came to her to become beautiful and once she was, she left him. The Dark Lady does not give her Love Slaves expiry dates and does not sell them, the Wozzard is just bitter. At this moment, the Wozzard turns up and sets off a bomb which demolishes the castle. Kai manages to escape with the piece of the Dark Lady's lusticon needed to reset Zev's expiry date. Back at the Wozzard's hideout, 790 reprogrammes Xev so that she is a) beautiful, and b) has the maximum lifespan of 79 years. But as they leave the planet, it gets eaten by Mantrid drones...

The Web (Episode 16) The crew decide the only way to escape the Mantrid drones who are now eating the universe at such a rate that it'll be gone in a few days, is to head for the centre of the universe. There the "greater uncertainty principle" will come into play and they may be able to find a way to defeat Mantrid. En route to the centre, however, Lexx gets caught in an enormous space creature's web. The web infiltrates the Lexx and the crew are thrown about inside - when they come to, they cannot remember anything that has happened for the last few hours. Stan is sick and Kai is attached to a mini-web thing that Stan tells Xev to disconnect or they will all die. Stan is immediately cured, but acting very strangely. Lexx struggles free and they think eveything is OK until they work out that Lexx is actually not free, he just thinks he is and the Web is controlling him. Stan tells Lexx to blast it's way out of the web and they finally get free.

The Net (Episode 17) A similar episode to The Web, but filmed from Stan's point of view. When he is acting strangely it turns out that he has actually been infected with a baby web, which is controlling him. There are a few scenes which take place after the end of The Web where the baby web is forced out of Stan by Kai, and Xev then kills it. The ship continues on it's way towards the centre of the universe.

Brigadoom (Episode 18) Lexx encounters a theatre floating in space and is about to eat it until Xev hears the Brunnen-G anthem coming from it. She insists on investigating and inside they find a troupe of actors who exist outside of space and time, and who sing Kai's life story inviting both him and her to join in, which they do. The story explains how the Brunnen-G discovered the secret of eternal longevity but the people became decadent and scared of the universe outside. When His Shadow attacked, only Kai and a few of his friends - the "newborns" who were their natural ages - would stand and fight, the others being happy to accept death as a way out of eternity. Kai and all his friends are killed and the planet destroyed, but the story of the Brunnen-G's bravery and self-sacrifice makes Stan change his mind about running away from Mantrid. He returns to the theatre and tells the others he no longer wants to run, he wants to stay and fight Mantrid to the end. The play ends and they return to the Lexx and prepare for battle.

Brizon (Episode 19) Stan, being in a brave and some might say belligerent mood, sends an open message to all remaining planets in the Light Universe requesting them to join forces to fight Mantrid, whose drones are by now numerous enough to be able to eat stars and affect gravity so that there are no longer any fractal cores left for escaping through to the dark zone. Stan's message gets one reply - from Brizon. Brizon was another bio-vizier, Mantrid's teacher and the one who made Kai into an assassin. He offers to help disable Mantrid's forces in return for Xev's bodily fluids, which he needs to stay "alive". When the crew refuse, he uses a mind control device on Kai and uses him to control Stan and Xev so he can plug a tube into Xev's liver anyway, feeding off her. He does show them how to stop Mantrid, however this is more because he can't stand him than actually because he wants to help. They find Mantrid's pod and Brizon and Xev go aboard. Xev manages to pull free as Brizon deactivates the pod and escapes back to the Lexx. Stan blows up the pod with Brizon still inside, but Mantrid's face returns to the screen. The pod was a decoy and Mantrid could be just about anywhere...and he's determined to finish off all human life in the Universe, and have the Lexx for dessert...

The End of the Universe (Episode 20) Although the situation looks hopeless, the crew are still determined to stand up to Mantrid to the end. Surrounded by drone arms, Kai leaves the Lexx to grab one, so that he can try to find out how they work and maybe find a way to disable them. When drone arms get inside the Lexx, Stan fixes 790's head to the dismantled drone arm to fight them off which he does with ease. They decide to make more 790 drones to try and beat the Mantrid drones. 790 drones can beat 6 Mantrid drones at a time, as they are more intelligent, and soon a cloud of 790 drones are out fighting off the enemy. They hold them off for a while, but soon the numbers of Mantrid drones are just too much and the Lexx is forced to retreat with almost all the mass of the light universe chasing them in the form of Mantrid drones. Meanwhile, Lyekka's pod has been damaged by Mantrid drones, meaning that she can no longer survive. She disguises herself as a drone arm and goes to fight with 790's army. She sneaks inside the defenses of the Mantrid drones and finds Mantrid's pod, distracting him from what's going on outside. As she is about to smash his pod, however, drone arms attack her and she is killed - giving her life for her friends on the Lexx. Her rouse works however, and Kai suddenly stops the Lexx, turning to face Mantrid and all his drones, which now take up most of the universe. Mantrid appears on screen and is about to move in for the kill, when Kai explains his plan. By moving so much mass so fast, Mantrid has destabilised the universe and it will implode...which it now does in a whirlpool of light, sucking all the drones and the pod and the Lexx into the vortex. As the crew prepare to die, knowing at least that they had taken Mantrid down with them, the vortex sucks them out of the Light Universe, which disappears, and clean out the other side into the Dark Zone. There is no sign of Mantrid or any drone arms, and they sigh with relief that he's finally been destroyed. They all head off to bed, 790 following Xev as he's still attached to his drone arm and has designs on using his new limb for carnal delights. As they get to the bed chamber though, his face changes to that of Mantrid's and he tries to strangle Xev. He has somehow infiltrated 790 and it's only because Kai manages to knock the head free that the little console with Mantrid's essence in falls out. "I destroyed a Universe!" screams ego-boy Mantrid, and Xev brings down the heel of her boot with a very hard stamp, and replies..."And we destroyed you!"
